Team Nigeria’s Blessing Oborududu won a silver medal in the women’s freestyle 68kg wrestling category on Tuesday August 3, 2021.

She had guaranteed Nigeria a medal on Monday after beating Mongolia’s Battsetseg Soronzonbold to reach the final.

Oborududu fought valiantly but USA’s Tamyra Stock-Mensah secured a 4-1 victory over her to win gold. Although she lost, the 32-year-old can be proud of her achievement after earning Nigeria’s second medal at the Tokyo games, and the country’s first ever medal in Olympic wrestling.
