Six arraigned for raping 14-year-old-girl

Six men, who allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl, have been arraigned before a Katsina Senior Magistrate Court on charges of abduction and rape.
The defendants are Sani Awwalu, Ibrahim Sulaiman, Salahudeen Lawal, Shamsu Shaaibu, Yusuf Rabiu, Abubakar Khalid and one Auta.
The defendants, according to the police, are all residents of Tundun Wada area in Funtua.
However, only Awwalu was arraigned on Tuesday as the other accused persons were said to be on the run.
The police told the court that the accused persons committed the crime on January 12, 2018 which the victim’s father, Mallam Yusuf Umar, reported at the Central Police Station, Funtua.
The court heard that they allegedly committed the offence inside Awwalu’s room.
Their victim, according to the police, was deceived into entering the room where the accused persons allegedly had “sexual intercourse with her several times.”
The offence is said to be contrary to sections 273 and 283 of the Penal Code.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Sani Ado, told the court that investigation was still in progress and requested for an adjournment which the court granted.
Hajiya Fadile Dikko, who presided over the court, adjourned the case till April 4 for mention and directed that Awwalu should be remanded in the prison custody.
