The management of the University of Ibadan has assured students of the institution of security to forestall future robbery attacks.

Prof. Kayode Adebowale, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, (Administration) of the institution disclosed this to newsmen in Ibadan to newsmen on Friday.

“We have been security conscious, that was why we raised the perimeter fence around the hall.

“It was one of our halls that’s close to the boundary of the university and the Polytechnic of Ibadan; therefore, many things had been tampered with.

“However, we will raise the perimeter fence further and then put wire mesh that would prevent anyone from coming in.

“We would also complete the perimeter fencing of the entire hall and increase the number of our security personnel manning the hall every night.’’

While narrating the incident and the scenario, Adebowale said “When we got the report around 1:30 a.m., I went there with the UI Chief Security Officer and some of the security staff.

“We met some of the students outside and one of the security men tied and we had to lose him and we tried as much as possible to calm the tension.

“However, only two students were injured, one wounded on the head and was taken to University Health Service, Jaja and had since been discharged.

“The other one jumped and I think she had a dislocation, not a fracture,” he said.

Adebowale said the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Shina Olukolu and other officers have visited the scene of the incident, adding that investigation is underway.

“The CP came this morning to discuss with us on the event. Investigation has been handed to the CP, so there is peace all around UI,” he said
