Olonisakin, Buratai, other military officers’ wives undergo training on SME

As part of their efforts aimed at supporting their spouses, wives of senior Defence and police officers, led by the wife of the Chief of Defence Staff, Mrs Omobolanle Olonisakin,yesterday, began training on Small and Medium Scale Enterprise, SME. The two-day capacity building training which had 60 military and police officers’s wives, among which where the wives of service chiefs and Inspector General of Police, is expected to end today in Abuja.
It was organized by Influence Consults Limited in conjunction with the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association, DEPOWA, an umbrella body of wives of top military and police officers. Speaking at the opening ceremony, President of DEPOWA, Mrs Omobolanle Olonisakin, who is the wife of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin, said the main objective of the training was to sensitize participants on current challenges in doing business.
Mrs Olonisakin added that the training was aimed at refreshing “our minds on the management of small and medium scale enterprise with the view to supporting our spouses and the upliftment of our members in general. It is our hope that lesson learnt from the training will equally be replicated in the life and experiences so that we can be stakeholders in the development of Nigeria, “she charged the participants.
Mrs Omobolanle implored all the participants to participate actively in the training session by asking pertinent questions when in doubt and give constructive inputs where necessary. On her part, Lead Consultant, Influence Consults Limited, Dr.
Bisayo Odetoyinbo while noting that SMEs cannot be overemphasized because it “grows our economy” , said if the women could key into the training, it would better the lot of their lives and family members. She said: ”If they are able to buy into it, start their own business, know how to source for funds and definitely it will go a long way not only for them but even they will be able to spread it out to their own other associations and people around them. “
