Gunmen kill 400-level student, first class graduate

Some gunmen believed to be armed robbers killed a first class graduate of Economics and a 400-level student of English Department of the Federal University, Lafia.

It was learnt that the robbers invaded Mararaba-Akunza village in the Lafia Local Government Area of the state around 10pm on Tuesday. The men shot continuously, killing the two victims in the process.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa State Command, DSP Kennedy Idirisu, confirmed the incident to News men on Wednesday.

He said while one of the victims died on the spot, the other gave up at a hospital, adding that their remains had been deposited at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital mortuary, Lafia.

The Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Abubakar Ibrahim, said one of the deceased had graduated and was processing his final clearance, while the other was a 400-level student.

Ibrahim said the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Sanusi-Liman, had commiserated with the families of the deceased, adding that the university community was mourning them.

Some students, who spoke to News men, appealed to the university management to beef up security around the school to forestall a recurrence.
