The Peoples Democratic Party in Bauchi State on Thursday said that although it does not anticipate violence in the governorship and State House of Assembly elections, “there can only be crises when there is injustice.”
The party, however, said that “anybody who stands before a moving train from getting to its destination will definitely be crushed.”
The PDP, therefore, called on its supporters to cast their votes, wait for them to be counted and escort them to their final destinations.
The chairman of the PDP in Bauchi State, Hamza Akuyam, who expressed the observation in an interview in Bauchi, said it was only the security agencies that could determine if they were prepared to curtail any breakdown of law and other.
According to him, there were indications that the PDP would win the elections in a transparent manner.
Akuyam said, “We are prepared for the governorship and State House of Assembly elections. We are waiting to collect materials from the Independent National Electoral Commission. There can only be crises when there is injustice.
“When there is justice and fair play, nobody will cause crises; after all, we have been tipped to win the election in a landslide victory. For us, we don’t anticipate a crisis, once the needful is done, nobody will do anything otherwise.”
Asked whether there would be a crisis if the PDP is robbed of victory, he said the party would not be robbed of victory since the most fundamental ingredient of democracy is the votes by the people.
The PDP chairman said, “Nobody will deny us the victory because the most fundamental part of democracy is the votes by the people. Anybody who stands before a moving train from getting to its destination will definitely be crushed. And it is not me or you, it is the people who vote that will defend their votes.
“The President (Muhammadu Buhari), has told people to cast their votes and defend it. That was what the President said and so everybody has to cast their votes and defend it.
“Cast your votes, wait for it to be counted, escort it to wherever it is supposed to go. We are going to do that, everybody is ready to cast their votes, wait for it to be counted and defend it.”
