Akwa Ibom court sentences 21 year old to death for robbery

The Akwa Ibom State High Court in the state capital Uyo has sentenced a 21 year old man to death by hanging for robbing MI AMAN pharmacy in Uyo on Wednesday August 4.
The accused, Ekemimi Edet, confessed to the crime and was said to have attacked the pharmacy which is located on Aka Nung Udoe Road, Uyo in March, last year.
Delivering judgement, Justice Okon Okon, held that the accused was found guilty of armed robbery which was punishable by death under Section 1 (2a) of the Robbery and Firearms Special Provisions Act, Laws of the Federation 2004.
Justice Okon said that the prosecution has “satisfactorily discharged the burden of proving the guilt of the accused in the commission of the crime.”
“I therefore find the accused guilty and accordingly convict him,” the judge said. He was then sentenced to death by hanging.
